Rooftop and slab
Heating and cooling from one cabinet, on the roof or the slab
Package unit repair, maintenance and installation for Cypress homes and commercial roofs, in gas/electric and heat pump configurations.
Chapter 01
What goes wrong on a unit that heats and cools from one cabinet?
A package unit holds both halves of a comfort system in one cabinet, set on the roof or on a slab outside. It fails the way both halves fail, so the symptoms ACE lists for its other repair work all apply, depending on the configuration you own.
On the cooling side: “Warm air from the vents, a system that runs without cooling, ice on the lines, water around the air handler, a breaker that keeps tripping, or a unit that short-cycles.” On a heat pump configuration, ACE's list is “Cold air in heating mode, a unit that will not switch between modes, ice that will not clear from the outdoor coil, a system running constantly, or auxiliary heat that engages far more than it should.”
Gas/electric units add the furnace faults: ignition and pilot failures, short cycling, blower motor faults, thermostat problems, weak or uneven heat and unusual noises. ACE works on package units for homes and for commercial buildings, residential and commercial alike.

Rooftop package unit with a freshly fabricated galvanised curb transition
Who sets, fabricates and connects a rooftop unit?
ACE repairs, maintains and installs package units, rooftop and slab-mounted, in gas/electric and heat pump configurations, and services every make and model whoever installed it. For new equipment the named options are the Armstrong Air PRPGE16, the high-efficiency gas/electric unit, and the PRPHP16 heat pump.
The photograph above shows a freshly fabricated galvanised curb transition on a rooftop unit, the visible result of ACE fabricating its own ductwork on in-house sheet metal equipment, rectangular and round spiral. The full process is on the ductwork page.
The diagnosis is the same on a roof as in a yard. Dee Guerrero described a visit from Nick Rodriguez this way: “Nick did a detailed check inside and then went to the unit outside to make sure he could find exactly what our issue was.” The price is given before work begins, including on after-hours calls.
Chapter 03
How often does a package unit need a look?
Because the cabinet carries both seasons, ACE's heat pump rule is the one that fits a heat pump package unit: maintenance twice a year, spring and fall, with both operating modes verified. ACE says furnace maintenance is best booked early in the fall, which is the right time for the heating side of a gas/electric unit.
The cooling half is what the ACE Precision Tune-up is written for: coil condition, refrigerant charge, electrical connections, capacitor and contactor wear, condensate drain, thermostat calibration and airflow. The Comfort Club, from $12.95 a month, schedules that visit and adds priority service on all calls and up to 20% off repairs.
A repeat of any symptom above is the signal to call again, and (281) 256-3433 is answered 24 hours a day. For a business roof, ACE's commercial work is scheduled to minimize disruption to the business. ACE is licensed in Texas, TACLB 135382E, and has worked out of Cypress since 2010.

Armstrong Air package units
PRPGE16 and PRPHP16
Gas/electric
PRPGE16
Armstrong Air high-efficiency gas/electric package unit, one of the two models ACE names for new installations.
Heat pump
PRPHP16
Armstrong Air package heat pump, the other named model. Maintained twice a year, spring and fall, with both modes verified.
The ductwork on either unit follows ACE's published fabrication process, seven steps from the first assessment to the final inspection. Details are on the ductwork page, and rooftop equipment for businesses is covered under commercial HVAC.
